Southeast Asian Odessey (CV10)
Travel to Vietnam and Cambodia to see world famous attractions like Halong Bay and Angkor Wat.
Day 1: Phnom Penh
Arrive in PHNOM PENH, where you will meet your national guide and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 2: Phnom Penh
Visit the ROYAL PALACE. Built in 1866 by King Norodom, the Royal Palace is home to the current King and Queen of Cambodia. Dress conservatively when visiting the palace. Then, travel to the NATIONAL MUSEUM, which contains a large collection of art from Cambodia’s “Golden Age”. Your next stop is the TUOL SLENG GENOCIDE MUSEUM, a former high school which was used as the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. Afterwards, visit the CENTRAL MARKET, where housed in a French Colonial-style building and painted in bright ochre. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap
Enjoy the evening sunset over ANGKOR WAT, known as one of the best sunsets in the world. (B/L/D)
Day 4: Siem Reap
Visit ANGKOR THOM, which was the last and most enduring capital of the Khmer Empire. At the center of the complex is the BAYON TEMPLE, which symbolized the center of the universe. 49 stupas with four giant Buddha statues surround the four sides of the temple. Afterwards, visit TA PROHM, where scenes from the movie “Tomb Raider” were filmed. Travel to the famous ANGKOR WAT. Once the capital for Khmer kings, the site is the largest Hindu temple complex in the world. Built during the 12th century, Angkor Wat is a definitive example of Khmer architecture and has become the symbol of Cambodia. Enjoy the beautiful sunset, regarded as one of the top 10 sunsets in the world. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Siem Reap - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Once known as “Sai Kung” (Saigon) the city was nicknamed “the Paris of the Orient” because of its classic French colonial architecture and its former status as the capital of the French colony Cochinchina. Visit the NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL and the CENTRAL POST OFFICE, both prominent structures in the city center. Drive on the city’s tree lined boulevards past the CHINATOWN. (B/L/D)
Day 6: Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) - My Tho - Ho Chi Minh City
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the countryside along the drive to MY THO, a rustic village in Mekong Delta. Then cruise the Mekong River, the longest river in Southeast Asia. Known as the mother river of Vietnam, locals still use the river for transportation, offering a glimpse into rural Vietnamese life. (B/L/D)
Day 7: Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi - Halong Bay
Fly to HANOI, the capital of the Republic of Vietnam. Drive to HALONG BAY, known as “Guilin on the Sea.” Spend your night at Novotel Hotel (Deluxe) in Halong Bay.
Day 8: Halong Bay
Cruise through HALONG BAY, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its magnificent view limestone isles and karsts. The bay boasts over 1600 limestone islets and is home to 14 floral and 60 faunal species. (B/L/D)
Day 9: Halong Bay - Hanoi
Visit BA DINH SQUARE in the heart of Hanoi. Then, visit nearby HOAN KIEM LAKE where the water is as clear as a mirror. Lastly, travel to the TEMPLE OF LITERATURE, or Van Mieu in Vietnamese. This Confucian temple was built in 1070 in the classical Chinese style and hosted Vietnam’s first national university until 1779. (B/L/D)
